Gigantar-The Big Guitar

The big guitar sits on top of the Illinois Rock’n’Roll Museum, in Joliet, on Route 66. (in fact, the body of the guitar is in the shape of the Route 66 sign)

The big guitar, officially named “Gigantar” (superb), was sculpted by Shannon McDonald, and is the WORLDS LARGEST handmade guitar sculpture, at 24 feet tall.

Although the guitar does not light up, it is bathed in purple light at night, so worth a drive by in daylight or at night. In fact, the purple light was switched on by Cheap Trick’s Rick Neilsen at the guitar’s unveiling in 2023….. and he was presented with aa giant guitar pick for performing this duty! (superb again)
