Stop the car!! - giant neon hot dog alert!!
Hot dog king Bill Henry took the plunge from mobile hot dog wagon to drive-in restaurant in the 1950’s. And he did it in a big way with one of the most epic neon signs of all time. Behold the giant neon hot dog of Henry’s Hot Dogs. “A meal in itself” it cries out - I’ll say!!
Henry’s has been a favorite with Route 66 travelers for decades, and if you’re travelling the route from Chicago, it’s the first fabulously grandiloquent roadside stop you’ll see, reinforcing the excellent decision you made to embark on this trip packed with roadside Americana
As far as the hot dogs go, these are Chicago style, fully loaded, including the fries being stuffed into the top of the hot dog!! Don’t be surprised -the giant fries are right there on top of the hot dog on the neon sign, you can also get Route 66 branded bottles of pop, and an excellent Henry’s Hot Dogs tee shirt while you’re there.
Sidebar: that cool RC Cola light box sign is not to be sneezed at either.
