Route 66 Start Sign

Let’s start at the very beginning, it’s a very good place to start.

If you’re going to wind from Chicago to LA, getting your kicks on route 66, here is the official starting point.

The mother road officially begins in downtown Chicago. Traffic and construction have caused the sign to move a block or two since the 1930’s, but it’s been in its current location for decades.

Parking is tricky, and easiest out of business hours. 

Some route 66 travelers have personalized stickers made to leave all along the route as they travel. You’ll find a few here at the starting point. And this is why we can’t have nice things!
